Self-improvement exercise. Do it. March 9, 2008

“Those who find ugly meanings in beautiful things are corrupt without being charming. This is a fault.”
Oscar Wilde.

Carl Jung theorized that whenever you think a bad thought about someone, or you judge them in some negative way (this goes for positives also, but more on that later), you are actually projecting qualities that you hate about yourself onto them (either something that you yourself exhibit, or perhaps an inner urge that you are repressing to appear more well-adjusted than you really are), and you hate them for it instead (the average person would rather hate others than hate the self, because hating yourself would be self-destructive). Try this for a few days, every time you feel ill will toward someone, recognize how your mental projection mechanism has been activated, and see how the quality you are about to react to is actually a feature of yourself… Get it? Now, do not hate yourself, but simply OBSERVE the projection process and short circuit it using this realization… recognize that this feature may be part of your “shadow” and perhaps something you need to work on. Then, try to find something redeemable about the person you were about to project onto, and love them for it. This presupposes, of course, that you have already developed a healthy self-esteem and a love for yourself. If you don’t love yourself, you can’t love others.

What to do with domain name FairyTaleLove.com? March 9, 2008

I also own FairyTaleLovers.com
Initial thoughts:

1) Some sort of children’s storybook website?

2) A huge adult movie megasite where actors dress up as cartoon characters?

3) Sell to Disney?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I haven’t given this one much thought yet, but as you can see, the opportunities in the domain name industry are still vast and still expanding…

Purpose of Life… March 8, 2008

Erik von Markovik (aka “Mystery”) claims that the purpose of life is to “live and love” (i.e. survive and replicate… for the people less romantic than myself). Brian Tracy says that the purpose of life is to develop many “loving relationships,” that is, spending time and creating memories with the people you love and care about most.

Do both of these perspectives imply the same basic conclusions?

I should hope so.

Why do I take pleasure in watching others fail? March 8, 2008

Do you? Be honest with YOURSELF about this, no one else really matters anyway. Do you ENJOY saying “No” more than saying “Yes” when others seek something of you? Do you take pleasure in either denying people, or watching them fall down as they strive for the object of their desire? Why? Do you think this is healthy? Were you surrounded by condescending others during crucial formatory periods in life? Were you denied love when you were younger? Why do you not instead challenge and encourage those who are not living up to their potential? Why not help them out along the way as well? It is good for the soul, is it not?

By limiting others, actively, or passively in mind, you only limit your own reach and potential. Am I wrong?

Just some food for thought, for both you and me. More on this l8r, I hope.
